How to be Insanely Productive While at Home
I have been on quarantine for a month now and all of you liked my post on fun and productive things you can do at home so much, that I decided to make another one focused just on how to be more productive. I am sure that you are trying to be more productive and that you haven't just been watching a lot of movies lately or scrolling through your social media feeds. Am I right? :)

Updated for 2024 - We are no longer in the midst of a world pandemic, so I've made a few tweaks to this post to make it more relevant.
In the first post, I wrote about ways to be productive that were fun, but in this post, it is going to be all about productivity.
A lot of us are in quarantine, and so it is really easy, to be unproductive. You don't have to work or to go to school, you can sleep in, use your phone as much as you want, eat whenever you want, and go to bed whenever you want. Your entire routine is out of sync, so you have two choices. You can create a quarantine routine, or you can go wild and not have any sort of routine at all. Which one is the better option?
Now, some of you are probably shaking your head and thinking that you don't need any sort of routine at all, which might just happen to be true. If you don't want to be productive, or if you don't want to get anything done, then don't make a routine. If you are using quarantine to relax, and you think a routine will ruin your relaxation time, then let me tell you this little scenario.
Making a simple routine will help you have more time to relax, not less. For example, if you go to bed at 2 AM, how good are you going to be feeling when you wake up at 12 PM the next morning? Then you grab your phone, without getting out of bed, and scroll for two hours. Where did the day go? It is now already 2 PM and you haven't gotten out of bed yet. How productive are you going to be feeling? And if you are trying to have more time to relax, then you won't feel relaxed either because you will be feeling like you wasted your day.
Okay! I kind of went on a tangent there, but now you probably see what I mean. Being productive will give you more time to relax during your quarantine. Let's get onto how to be insanely productive during quarantine and if you want some ideas of fun and productive things you can do during quarantine, then go here.
How to be Insanely Productive While at Home
1. It All Starts the Night Before
Your insanely productive day needs to start the night before. Like I said above, if you go to bed late, then you are going to wake up late and you aren't going to be feeling productive if you wake up and the day is already half of the way over.
So plan in advance to go to bed early. If you are used to going to bed late at night, then you might want to gradually go to bed earlier every night for a couple of nights in a row, just so you don't all of a sudden throw your internal clock off by a few hours, before you start waking up earlier in the morning.
Since it is during quarantine, you are going to want to get as much rest as you need, so I don't recommend waking up with an alarm clock. Instead, focus on going to bed earlier at night and then when you wake up, get out of bed, instead of turning on your phone. You can't use the "my phone is my alarm clock and I might as well check my notifications while I turn off my alarm" excuse anymore because you aren't waking up with an alarm.
Now is also the time to plan out what is going to stop you from being productive. If you always have trouble deciding what to wear, then pick out an outfit the night before. If you usually end up being overwhelmed because you have so many tasks to do, then make a list, and start at the top.
2. Don't Turn Your Phone on Right Away
If you turn your phone on right away (Just to check important things of course!), then you might end up scrolling on social media for way longer than you ever wanted to. Only turn your phone on, if you have an actual valid reason. If you have to turn on your phone, then you might consider putting all of your "distraction apps" into one folder and then using a productivity app to lock that folder until a certain time in the day.
If you don't have a reason to turn your phone on, then don't. It is as simple as that.
3. Know What You Are Trying to Accomplish
If you don't know what you are trying to accomplish, then it is going to be hard measuring whether you were productive or not. Make it easy for yourself by writing it all out. I use a bullet journal, but you could just write down everything you need to do on a sheet of paper on your desk.
You could write your hardest tasks at the top of the list, or maybe the ones that have a deadline. It is up to you.
If you know you are more productive in the morning (I definitely am!), then put your hardest, biggest tasks at the top of the list, so you can get those done.
4. Take Breaks
Taking breaks can seem counterproductive, but if you are working really hard the entire time, then you might start working slower and slower and slower. So instead, take a quick break after every hour or two.
I don't recommend going on your phone though because you might get stuck scrolling through your social media feeds or texting a friend. Instead, stand up and walk around for a few minutes or get a drink of water. Pull out a fresh sheet of paper and just write your thoughts for a few minutes. Then get back to work.
5. Eat Healthy + Exercise
Eat healthy food, that makes you feel good and gives you energy. If you have more energy, then you can be more productive.
In the afternoon when you are starting to feel tired of working on your to-do list, take a break to exercise, and then get back to work feeling fresh and ready to go. I have been enjoying doing the Fitness Blender workout videos right now. They have workouts for every level, that you can do at home. Some of the videos are short and some are long, so you can pick ones that fit into your quarantine schedule. Did I mention they were free?
6. Have Some Fun
You can be productive when you are having fun too. You know that fun craft, you have been waiting to do for forever? Now is the time for you to it.
Once you have finished up with work, or with schoolwork for the day, don't just spend time on your phone, or watch a movie. Really relax. Turn off everything that is distracting you, and take some time to think of what you really want to do. Then go and do it.
If you have been waiting for the perfect time to start journaling or painting or calligraphy, then wait no longer. Start today!
If you are looking for a new hobby to try out, then you are in luck! You can read some of my bullet journaling and calligraphy posts to get started. You don't need to be good at it in the beginning either so don't be afraid to try it out.
7. Know When to Stop
Finally, you need to know when to stop. If you are going to be productive tomorrow, then you need to start tonight. Plan out what you need to do today for you to be productive tomorrow. Decide what you are going to accomplish tomorrow, and then go to bed early enough that you will be able to wake up early tomorrow without an alarm.
How to be Insanely Productive While at Home
I was in quarantine for two years, and so it was important to find ways to be productive and have fun while being at home and stuck inside for the most part.
As always, make sure you take care of yourself, especially during this time, so if you need to take a break from being productive, then do it.
